I’m excited to say we recently expanded our office by taking over the room next door. This past Holiday season we pretty much maxed out the space we had. It was a complete mess and a literal maze of boxes. The original dream from the start was to take over the space next door and we did it. We first thought we wanted to knock down the whole wall but instead we had a doorway cut which made more sense to keep the two rooms separate. In literally one day we set up a mini warehouse which holds the bulk of our online inventory. This is where all online orders are packed and processed. And on the other side we have a now organized design studio and showroom. Great way to start the new year! – Micah
Over the past few years, hat design has become one of my passions. I was always into hats as a kid and teenager so it makes sense. From a design stand point this hat below is one of my favorites. I sourced the fabric from a tiny company in MA run only by a wife and husband. The fabric was made and printed in USA which is becoming rare. With only seeing a 14″ x 14″ swatch of the fabric I decided to go for it without making an actual sample of the hat. This was pretty risky considering it was the most expensive fabric per yard we have bought to date. We made a total of 200 pcs; 100 5-panels & 100 snapbacks. When we finally got them our jaws pretty much dropped. When we released them they got a ton of press and we sold out over the weekend. Couldn’t hope for much more than that!
The other weekend my friend Jose brought me to a secret spot of his down under a bridge in the Bronx. With only a handful of colors and stock caps, I decided it might be cool to try and do a little illustrated mural. Since it was freehand (no sketch) it was pretty tricky, but all in all it came out and was a lot of fun.
I recently produced and released a small collection of ‘Micah NYC’ designs through my brand Only. This is the first set of many items I plan to do. I have thought about starting and running a full fledged artist line on the side of Only time and time again (separate site, online store, retailers, etc), but when I think about it realistically – it would be too much to handle and it makes more sense to merge it along with Only. Below are the first two tees I decided on; they were produced in 30 – 50 pcs per color and I’m excited to say they have got an unbelievable response so far. Both designs are direct prints of original 18″ x 24″ mop marker drawings. Stay tuned for the next set which I am already starting to think about and work on! – Micah
